Michael Hruschka
Michael Hruschka is a macro and nature photographer from Rain am Lech in Bavaria. Even as a child, he spent every free moment outdoors in nature and discovered photography for himself in 2013. During his explorations of the nearby river landscapes, he quickly developed a particular fondness for macro photography – dragonflies remain his favourite subjects to this day. Michael places great emphasis on love and respect for nature; his inspiration lies in capturing compelling subjects in interplay with the existing light conditions, without using artificial lighting. In this setup, the photographer uses a NOVOFLEX BasicPod ground-level tripod to precisely position a flexible arm with a clamp. The clamp holds the flower with the three butterflies steady and exactly in the desired position – a decisive advantage when working with delicate subjects and in light wind. Below the camera, a TrioPod with MagicBall 50, Q=BASE II, and a CASTEL‑Q with fine drive is used. This combination provides an absolutely stable base while enabling extremely sensitive adjustments in the millimetre range without touching the subject.
For this shot, the camera is positioned close to the ground on a flexible MagicBall 50 tripod head. Thanks to its wide adjustment range, the camera can be brought precisely into the perspective that will later come closest to the viewer’s eye – right in the middle of the subject’s natural habitat.
The final image presents the subject cleanly isolated against a soft, colour-harmonious background. The combination of precise camera positioning, stable support, and a consciously chosen framing ensures that environment, light, and subject merge into a coherent overall composition.
